How e-cigarettes work
E-cigarettes work by heating a liquid to produce an aerosable. The e-liquid in e-cigarettes and vapes can contain nicotine, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavorings, and other chemicals.
When this liquid is heated, it produces a vapor that delivers nicotine (if present) and other chemicals to the user. E-cigarettes do not produce tobacco smoke, but they do produce an aerosable that can contain harmful chemicals, including metals like lead.
The amount of nicotine delivered by an e-cigarette can vary depending on many factors, including the brand of e-cigarette, the cartridge or pod used, the size and power of the device, how frequently it is used, and how
Vape Detector Science and Accuracy
Vape detectors differentiate themselves in terms of how they detect the vape in the air. It goes without saying that some methods work better than others. There are some simple solutions that look flashy but are more gimmicky when you look under the hood.
Smart Vape Detectors
Vape detectors and air quality devices such as Triton 3D Sense and 3D Sense Pro utilize an array of sensors to dynamically assign thresholds for vape activity based on the running particulate makeup in the air.
3D Sense Pro, for example, examines the particulates in the air, the size of the different particulates, relative humidity, VOCs, and other proprietary measurements. It then feeds these metrics to a machine-learning trained algorithm to accurately determine whether or not vaping is occurring.
Single Element Vape Detectors
Some vape detectors rely solely on one sensor and a predetermined threshold to detect vaping, and with that approach, comes some drawbacks. This includes:
- Lower reliability
- A lack of preparedness for changes in vape composition
- A lower assortment of nicotine and vape products detected
Be cautious, for example, of products that promise THC detection. This is more a gimmick than anything and multi-sensor vape detectors have much more to offer.
The Triton Accuracy Advantage
A few non-Triton vape detectors use a similar multi-sensor approach but Triton’s is the only vape detector that:
- Reports all metrics to the cloud multiple times a minute for better analysis
- Backs its detection with a meticulously trained AI algorithm
- Has a cost-free demo program to try 3D Sense before you make a purchase
In addition to these exclusive features, 3D Sense guarantees high performance in key accuracy areas. These include:
- Low false positives
- A far range (more below)
- Advanced airflow
- Multiple metrics tracked (e.g., pm2.5, pm10)
- Air quality monitoring and alerts
- Cloud-adjusted sensitivity
Vape Detector Sensitivity
Triton is the industry leader in vape detector accuracy and affordability. Our sensors have been meticulously tested and calibrated to ensure accuracy and range.
3D Sense and Atlas are also connected to Triton Sync, an advanced cloud dashboard. This means your devices are constantly learning from their environments and adapting based on relative conditions.
Vape Detector Range
3D Sense has been vetted to be most accurate and timely within a radius of 7.5 ft (2.29 m) in most conditions. Outside of this range, 3D Sense and Atlas can still pick up on vape but it takes longer for the vape emissions to reach the sensor and they may not be dense enough by the time that happens.
